The Quiet

a place for HUMAN stories

NO AI Policy

THE QUIET SITE does NOT use AI to generate content.

All stories, art, voice recordings, and everything else you see or hear is created by humans.

If you hear a voice, it's very likely mine, or a member of my family.
I do use some processing to change the pitch and tone of our voices, but it's still human.
No AI

If you hear music. Well, I suck at this, but I have family that's rather good at it.
They compose and build/perform it all by hand. No AI.

I do all the planning (limited because I pants mostly)
and writing with a fountain pen and a nice leather bound clipboard.
Then some time later I type it up and edit it. No AI.

All the art is created in my comfy lazy boy chair with a few pencils
and the same leather bound clipboard I use to write.
I then scan it, clean it up, and animate it in Blender. No AI.

All the programming, css, and html is hand written by me.
I've been a developer for over 20 years.
I started way before AI and still rather like the control.
Never AI.

My Process

At night, right after supper, I sit in my comfy lazy-boy chair with my fountain pen
and I plan out a bit of what I'm going to write next.
It's super rough, and I use a bit of Gregg shorthand to get things down fast and loose.

At some point I grab my pencil set and I read my plan for the writing, and I sketch out two or three hero images, while I watch TV with my family.

When I wake up the next day, I grab the images and plan,
and write the story to match them. I shoot for about 751 words per day.
I write the whole thing with my pen and my clipboard. I use a blend of Gregg, cursive and printing. But most important I don't spell check.
That kills any flow.

After I finish hand writing the story, I type it up into this website (because I built the app as I like it) and then I edit, and edit some more. This gives me a decently clean version.

I then scan the images and clean them up in Blender. I do a bit of animation, but I'm not great yet, so it's slow going.

I take the text and sit in my car and record the audio. I do cleanup with Audacity, and then I might do a bit of pitch and tone adjustment, but it's still my voice.

Now I have text, images and audio. I use Mac default apps to create the video.
This gives me everything for all formats.

I use this site to build an EPub (I wrote the code that does this years ago).
I upload the video, EPub, and audio to the various sites and
when I'm ready I mark thing as published on this site.
Then it shows up in the feed, on the home page.

Shout Out

I want to thank PunkyDoodle for her amazing art style.
I very much took inspiration from her work.
If you're her and reading this. I swear I did not use any sort of AI to copy you.
I spent months learning to draw and animate in a like style, with my own bits.
If you're not her, please check out her work.
